The “547” John E. McGlamry Memorial Scholarship was established by the North Georgia Community Foundation. The $3,500 award is given to a graduating high school senior who is a child of active or retired Georgia State Troopers and who plans to enroll in an accredited college or university. An essay explaining what wisdom, justice, and moderation means to the student is required, as well as official transcripts.

Applicants must be of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity, and a citizen or legal resident of the United States — although citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Republic of Palau are also eligible. The student must be enrolled in undergraduate studies and have a minimum grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale. One letter of recommendation is required, and the applicant must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Applicants must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must attend full-time and must have at least a 2.8 overall grade point average or a 3.0 grade point average in engineering courses. Applicants must be a citizen of the United States or Canada, and it is preferred that applicants be residents of Alabama, Georgia, or Florida. Applicants do not need to be members of the American Welding Association to apply. The scholarship is for $2,500 annually and may be awarded to the same recipient more than once for up to four years.
